Overview


Malta is a politically stable, tax-efficient, full EU member state offering a range of residency programmes for investors, entrepreneurs, remote workers, and retirees. Acumum Advisory is an Authorised Registered Mandatory (ARM), licence AKM-ACUM, officially licensed by the Maltese government to manage and submit all residency applications.

Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP)

The MPRP grants lifetime permanent residency to non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss nationals, updated significantly in 2025 to be more accessible and flexible. No minimum physical stay is required to maintain status.

  • Covers the main applicant, spouse/partner, dependent children (to age 29), and dependent parents/grandparents
  • Property: purchase €375,000+ or rent €14,000+/yr in Malta or Gozo
  • Government contribution: €37,000; administrative fee: €60,000; NGO donation: €2,000
  • No worldwide taxation — only income/capital gains remitted to Malta are taxable
  • Qualifying property may be rented out immediately

Global Residence Programme (GRP)


The GRP provides favourable tax residency status for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals, with no obligation to live in Malta full-time. Applications must be submitted through an ARM such as Acumum Advisory.

  • Annual minimum tax of €15,000 covering the applicant and entire family
  • 0% Malta tax on foreign income not remitted to Malta; 0% on capital gains
  • No inheritance, estate, or wealth taxes
  • Property: purchase €275,000+ (€220,000 in Gozo) or rent €9,600+/yr
  • Must not reside in any other single country for more than 183 days per year
  • Cannot be combined with any other Maltese residency or tax programme

Malta Startup Residence Programme

Designed for non-EU founders and co-founders launching an innovative business in Malta. Grants a 3-year residence permit, renewable to 5 years, run jointly by Residency Malta and Malta Enterprise.

  • Open to founders, co-founders, core employees, and immediate family members
  • Minimum paid-up share capital: €25,000 (€10,000 per additional co-founder beyond four; max 6 co-founders)
  • Core employees must earn a minimum gross annual salary of €30,000
  • Application fee: €750 per adult; residency card fee: €82.50
  • Path to long-term residency after 5 years of legal residence in Malta.

Malta Nomad Residence Permit


The Malta Digital Nomad Visa allows non-EU nationals to live in Malta and work remotely for employers or clients based outside the country. Valid for 1 year, renewable up to 4 years total.

  • Minimum gross annual income: €42,000 from remote work (investment income excluded)
  • Includes Schengen travel via the residency card
  • Family inclusion: spouse/partner, minor and dependent adult children
  • Foreign-sourced income generally not subject to personal income tax in Malta
  • Application fee: €300 per applicant; processing time 30–60 days
  • Does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship; local employment not permitted
